Confederate Statues

We should have left these up, because apparently bad things happen when you try to erase history.

  1. What shall we do about UC Berkeley (named for a slaveholder), Yale (same), New York City and New Your State (both named in honor of Duke of York, who owned a large slave-trading concern), etc, etc, etc, etc? All of these ARE part of our history, and serve as beautiful reminders of our progress as a nation.

  2. Yes, when you're dealing with unreasonable people it never ends. However, if during reconstruction, the North had constructed a giant commemorative statue to General Sherman outside a federal courthouse in Atlanta, I think reasonable people would agree that's not the most appropriate place to put a statue of someone who burned down a large portion of the city regardless of whether one personally believes he was a war hero or a war criminal.

    1. What about U.S Grant and Abe Lincoln on the money?

    2. Could be wrong, but I don't think Grant or Lincoln would draw the same level of vitriol in the south as Sherman, or at least in the areas on his March to the Sea. Trump frequently touts Lincoln as a great American president and I haven't seen that cost him any support in the south.
